Spray and Grow Kits
- Inside your Spray & Grow Kit is a living organism, so we recommend activating it upon receipt. If you need to wait, you can store them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight or in the fridge for around 2-3 months.
- NOTE: Pink oyster mushrooms don't tolerate temperatures below 40 degrees F, so skip the fridge with these and instead opt for something else like a cellar, pantry, or cool porch tucked away from the sun.
- All of the species used in our kits are very vigorous and viable, so after storing for a few weeks, they may start growing mushrooms inside the box! It's no issue, but some recipients can be surprised or concerned which is why we have activation and storage recommendations.
Fruiting Block Kit
- Fruiting blocks can be stored for up to 4 weeks or until you see mushrooms beginning to grow in the bag. Store them at room temperature away from direct sunlight. No refrigeration is necessary.
- Note: Shiitake blocks can only be stored until the block turns dark brown, at which time they must be used.
Grain Spawn
- Grain spawn will store for three months in a refrigerator. The fresher the better, but mycelium is pretty resilient. If you don’t get around to inoculating right away, tuck it away in your refrigerator until you’re ready. NOTE: Pink oyster cannot be refrigerated and is best used within one month of receipt.
- Only open your spawn bag when you are ready to use it. Opening it prematurely will increase the risk of it molding.
- It is not ideal to use spawn for more than one inoculation day.
Plug and Sawdust Spawn
- Plug and sawdust spawn will store for six months to a year in a refrigerator. The fresher the better, but mycelium is pretty resilient. If you don’t get around to inoculating right away, tuck it away in your refrigerator until you’re ready. Note: Pink oyster and almond agaricus cannot be refrigerated. Almond agaricus will keep at room temperature for six months while pink oyster is best used within one month of receipt.
- Only open your spawn bag when you are ready to use it. Opening it prematurely will increase the risk of it molding.
- It is not ideal to use spawn for more than one inoculation day.
Cultures
- Plate cultures can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 6 months. If your culture has been stored for longer than 4 months, we recommend checking the viability of the culture before use.
- Liquid cultures can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.
- Slant cultures can be stored long term in cryostorage, or up to a year in the refrigerator.
- NOTE: Pink oyster, almond agaricus and Pestalotiopsis microspora cultures cannot be refrigerated. Store these cultures at room temperature and use within 1 month of receipt.
Pre-Poured Agar
- Store your unused dishes upside down in the refrigerator, and your slants upright in the refrigerator. It’s best to keep them in their original container to prevent contamination. In the absence of a refrigerator, store them in a cold room.
- Check for condensation from time to time. Condensation in the plates means there is a heat source driving out water from the agar, which will dry it out quickly. Let your plates equilibrate to room temperature before use.
Injection Port Bag
- If kept at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, an Injection Port Bag can be stored for several months before use.
- Let your sterilized grain bag with injection port sit for 1-2 weeks before injection. This will expose any issues that may have occurred in shipping and prevent wasted spores or culture syringes. If you do find that your product is compromised, please email us.
Boomr and Wood Lovr Bags
- If kept at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, Boomr Bag and Wood Lovr can be stored for several months before use.
Capsules
- Store capsules in their original packaging in a cool, dark place. Their expiration date can be found on the bottom of the carton.
Tinctures
- Tinctures can be stored at room temperature. The expiration date can be found on the bottle.
Chaga Tea
- Store chaga tea in a cool, dark place. Chaga can last up to five years if stored properly.
Dried Mushrooms
- Store dried mushrooms in their bag in a cool, dark place for up to a year. Dried mushrooms can be frozen to extend their shelf life.
